Want news about the Switch 2? Too bad: the rumors remain rumors, and there's nothing official yet. However, Nintendo decided to surprise its fans with a new device... that will likely invade eBay and quadruple its price. It's called Alarmo, an alarm clock that uses music from Nintendo's main franchises to wake us up. It includes a motion detector, a function that records our sleep, and connectivity that will let it receive updates with new sounds.
I'd like to start with a statement: the alarm clock is an abomination. A primordial horror created to sow pain and suffering in the heart of humanity. If I imagine a showdown for the title of "Most Detestable and Cruel Device", I think the alarm clock makes it to the finals, and fights with the inkjet printer.
But amid all this, Nintendo appears, with its classic habit of denying the information fans are screaming for, and turning different objects into "collectibles". What does that mean exactly? There's no news about the Switch 2... and Nintendo created an alarm clock. It's called Alarmo, it's adorable, and quite expensive. Video below:
Alarmo: Mario and Zelda Music to Get You Out of Bed
While Alarmo can work as a traditional alarm clock (read: "pressing the snooze button"), the idea is to take advantage of its interactive component. With a built-in motion sensor, Alarmo adds sound effects to the alarm every time we turn in bed (and don't get out of it). The alarm stops on its own when we stand up, and the clock "celebrates" the action with a small fanfare.
The available sounds are based on five games (Super Mario Odyssey, Pikmin 4, Splatoon 3, RingFit Adventure, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild), each with seven alarms or "scenes" different. Nintendo confirmed there will be more in the future (Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons), but it will be necessary to connect with an official account. Alarmo also offers Sleepy Sounds, which plays relaxing sounds to help you fall asleep, Records, which keeps logs of our sleep cycles and movements in bed, and Hourly Chime, to mark the start of the hour.
General availability? 2025. Price? The official Nintendo New York store sells it for $99, plus taxes.
