Alibaba announced a plan to integrate its Qwen model family into Apple Intelligence for iPhone users in China, according to Xinhua’s October 31, 2026 report. Xinhua said developer testing was scheduled to begin in the latest iOS developer beta on November 4, with a rollout for Chinese users planned alongside iOS 27.3 in December.

NeoTeo previously covered Reuters’ report on Apple’s China-specific model work with Alibaba. This follow-up focuses on the separately reported plan to integrate Qwen into Apple Intelligence.

Where Qwen would appear

Xinhua named Siri, Writing Tools and Visual Intelligence as the planned iOS entry points. The reported uses include understanding text and images, along with generating content.

What users could choose

Under the reported plan, users could choose whether to enable the integration and what information to share. Alibaba said user requests and generated responses would not be used to train its models.

Xinhua described eligibility as an Apple Intelligence-capable iPhone purchased in China, or a device whose location and Apple Account country or region are both set to China.

Apple Intelligence requirements and China access

Apple’s support page published July 10, 2026, listed iPhone 15 Pro models and iPhone 16 or later as compatible iPhones for Apple Intelligence. It also specified 7 GB of device storage and the same supported language for the device and Siri. These are general Apple Intelligence requirements. Apple’s July support page does not give a Qwen-specific device list.

On October 22, Apple’s US support page said Apple Intelligence features were unavailable on supported devices purchased in mainland China. For devices purchased elsewhere, Apple said the features were unavailable when the user was in mainland China and the Apple Account country or region was also set to mainland China. Apple’s support page describes those China access conditions.
