Amazon is exploring additional data center facilities in Montgomery County, Missouri, on private land it had not yet acquired, the company told KOMU 8 News. County presiding commissioner Ryan Poston described a possible 15-building campus on 890 acres east of Danville. KOMU reported on October 23, 2026, that acquiring the land and securing future county approvals were still necessary.
What Amazon is considering east of Danville
The possible site is a preliminary proposal, not a confirmed construction project. Amazon said it was exploring additional facilities in the region. Poston supplied the location and possible scale: 15 buildings across 890 acres.
The Montgomery County Commission learned of the proposal at a public meeting on a Thursday before the October 23 report. The report did not give the meeting’s calendar date.
How it differs from the New Florence campus
The proposed site east of Danville is separate from Amazon’s campus in New Florence, Missouri. KOMU reported on October 23 that the New Florence campus covered 900 acres and was under construction. Its report cited a $10 billion investment for that project.
| Amazon project | Location | Area | Status in the October 23, 2026 report |
| Possible second campus | East of Danville, Missouri | 890 acres | Amazon was exploring facilities; land acquisition and county approvals were still needed. |
| New Florence campus | New Florence, Missouri | 900 acres | Under construction; KOMU cited a $10 billion investment. |
Local officials differ on the proposed expansion
Ryan Poston said he supported the potential expansion and pointed to the economic opportunity of major companies coming to Montgomery County. His view is a stated rationale, not an estimate of the project’s economic effects.
Harry Cope, a grass farmer and presiding commissioner candidate at the time of KOMU’s report, opposed the developments. He raised concerns about transparency, the county’s dependence on large technology companies, and preserving local character. KOMU also reported that a lawsuit alleging open-meeting and open-records violations in the approval process for the first Amazon project was ongoing. That case concerned the earlier project.
Can data centers be built in multiple stories?
Yes. Multistory data centers are technically possible. CoStar reported on DataBank’s planned three-story facility next to its existing data center in Plano, Texas. Data Center Knowledge describes design considerations for multistory facilities, including structural loads, power, cooling and elevators.
