Magic rays, fireballs, black holes, and many more spells will be the arsenal at your disposal as you fight your way through the debut game from Indefatigable. Inspired by the classic Heretic, Amid Evil is a retro medieval fantasy FPS.
As the years pass, we grow a little wiser each day, drawing ever closer to absolute truth. Given time for reflection and the perspective to offer clarity, surely we can all finally agree on one thing: Heretic was a better medieval fantasy FPS than its sequel Hexen: Beyond Heretic. And independent studio Indefatigable clearly agrees, because its debut game, Amid Evil, closely resembles the fantasy FPS that Raven Software released in 1994, albeit with a few more polygons and some blood splatters.
Magical Arsenal and Non-Linear Levels
The Amid Evil trailer showcases magic rays, fireballs, black holes, and many more spells used to demolish both enemies and level geometry, opening new paths as you progress. This epic first-person adventure will consist of seven episodes, each with its own setting and monstrous enemies. You'll have magical weaponry that can be overcharged with the souls of the dead, and levels will be non-linear, filled with secrets to discover. Interestingly, enemies feature adaptive AI that lets them pursue you across land, sea, and air.
From the Makers of DUSK and Return of the Triad
The best part is that a variety of cheats will also be available to enjoy an experience similar to the golden age of PC gaming. Indefatigable is based in Australia and New Zealand and is formed by the producers of DUSK and the creators of Return of the Triad. Judging by the video, Amid Evil seems to be the third lost game in the lineage of Heretic and Hexen, which is a positive point in its favor. Amid Evil is being developed by Indefatigable and will be available on Windows. The game doesn't have a concrete release date yet, but it's expected to arrive on Steam very soon.
