Apple announced Final Cut Camera 2.4 on September 29, 2026, as a free update, adding variable-aperture controls for the iPhone 18 Pro’s 48MP Fusion Main camera. The US App Store lists the app as free and includes version 2.4 release notes.
How aperture control works on iPhone 18 Pro
Aperture is the opening that lets light reach a camera sensor. Changing it also affects depth of field: how much of a scene appears in focus. Final Cut Camera 2.4 lets users adjust the Fusion Main camera from f/1.48 to f/4, either manually or with aperture-priority and shutter-priority modes.
A lower f-number means a wider opening; a higher one means a narrower opening. That gives video makers control over how much light enters the camera and the depth of field they want while recording.
Cinematic effects and recording controls
The update adds Cinematic effects to regular video, including ProRes and Apple Log footage. In Final Cut Pro, users can adjust focus points and depth of field while editing that footage. The listed device requirement for these effects is an iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone Duo.
Final Cut Camera 2.4 also redesigns access to shutter angle, ISO and white balance. Users can customize exposure overlays, see false-color and clipping indicators, adjust focus-peaking sensitivity and switch on a recording tally light. A two-finger tap clears the viewfinder.
Monitoring and broadcast tools have their own requirements
With iOS 27, the app adds RGB Parade and histogram scopes for monitoring video. An RGB Parade displays red, green and blue signal levels separately; a histogram shows the distribution of image tones.
The update also supports clean SDI output through an HDMI-to-SDI converter. SDI is a connection standard used to send video to professional equipment. Genlock offset adjusts frame delay when coordinating with other genlocked cameras—cameras synchronized to the same timing reference.
