What Apple’s Gemini collaboration means
Apple says its next-generation Apple Foundation Models were custom-built in collaboration with Google and its Gemini models. Those are the models Apple identifies behind its next generation of Apple Intelligence. The announcement describes work on Apple’s models—not Siri as the public Gemini assistant.
The practical takeaway is simple: Google’s Gemini models were part of developing Apple’s models, while Siri remains Apple’s assistant. Apple’s announcement does not lay out which model handles each individual request.
What Siri AI is designed to do
Apple describes Siri AI as able to search personal information, answer broad questions, understand onscreen content and take actions in apps. That means it is designed to work with context from places such as messages, email and photos, as well as respond to questions and interact with apps.
Apple also describes a dedicated Siri app and a more conversational assistant. These features are part of Apple’s announced Siri AI experience.
How Apple describes processing and privacy
Apple Intelligence uses on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute, Apple’s cloud system for AI processing. Apple says some advanced features use server models.
Apple says that when Private Cloud Compute handles a request, personal data is not stored or made accessible to Apple or anyone else. That is Apple’s stated privacy policy for requests handled by the system.
Devices, languages and regional availability
For US users, Apple’s June 8, 2026 announcement described Siri AI beta availability for supported devices set to English. Apple said additional languages would follow, without giving country-specific rollout dates.
Apple lists Apple Intelligence support for iPhone 16 models and later, as well as iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, alongside specified newer iPad, Mac, Vision Pro and Apple Watch hardware. That is Apple’s Apple Intelligence eligibility list; the Siri AI announcement describes its beta for supported devices set to English.
Apple separately lists Apple Intelligence in English, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Vietnamese, simplified and traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Siri AI’s initial beta language is English.
Apple said Siri AI would initially be unavailable in iOS, iPadOS and watchOS in the European Union. It also said Apple Intelligence features would initially be unavailable in China while it addressed regulatory requirements.
