On October 27, 2026, Apple announced that beta AI assistants for Pages, Keynote, and Numbers are planned for an Apple Creator Studio update in November. The assistants are subscriber features, and Apple says they use the context of the document you’re working on. The announcement sets out the scope of the beta covered in NeoTeo’s earlier report.
What the assistants are designed to do
Apple says the assistants will use Apple models and OpenAI. In Pages, the assistant is designed to draft, restructure, and fine-tune writing. In Keynote, it will help design, animate, and refine slides. In Numbers, it will calculate, visualize, and organize data, preview recommended chart types with one tap, and create custom tables using world knowledge.
MCP gives external tools a separate way to work with the apps
Apple also plans to add support for the Model Context Protocol (MCP), a way for external agents and tools to interact with the three apps. On Mac, those tools will be able to read content, make edits, and automate actions. MCP requires macOS 27 or later.
Apple separately announced Keynote Interchange Format (.keyx), an open JSON-based bundle format intended to be readable by external tools, developer workflows, and AI agents. It is a file format, distinct from the planned MCP access to app content.
Basic app work stays free
Pages, Keynote, and Numbers will remain free for creating, viewing, and editing files. The new assistants are part of Apple Creator Studio, and existing subscribers will receive the planned update at no extra charge.
In its October 27 announcement, Apple listed Apple Creator Studio for new U.S. subscribers at $12.99 per month or $129 per year. Eligible U.S. college students and educators can subscribe for $2.99 per month or $29.99 per year, subject to verification and terms. Apple also lists a one-month free trial for new subscribers and a possible three-month offer with the purchase of a new Mac or qualifying iPad. Family Sharing covers up to six family members.
Device and language requirements
The assistant beta requires an Apple Intelligence-capable device running iOS 27, iPadOS 27, or macOS 27 or later. Apple specifies U.S. English only for the beta. The assistant can therefore run on a qualifying iPhone or iPad as well as a Mac; MCP, by contrast, requires macOS 27 or later.
