Gizmodo reported on November 4, 2026, that Apple had begun testing Live Rewind and Siri Recap with select users. The two Apple Watch features have different jobs: one retrieves recent speech as text, while the other creates a conversation summary. Gizmodo described a broader rollout as planned for December.
Two features, two kinds of recall
Live Rewind is an on-demand text snippet of nearby speech from the previous 15 seconds. According to Gizmodo, double-pressing the Digital Crown activates it; an unsaved snippet is deleted after 30 seconds, though a user can save it as a note in the standalone Siri app.
Siri Recap creates a high-level summary of ambient conversation for later review, rather than a word-for-word transcript. Gizmodo reported that an unsaved recap is deleted within seven days and that users can save summaries on an iPhone. The short rewind is for retrieving a recent detail; the recap condenses a conversation, so it is not a verbatim record.
| Feature | What it provides | If not saved |
| Live Rewind | Text from the previous 15 seconds of nearby speech, activated by double-pressing the Digital Crown | Deleted after 30 seconds; can be saved as a note in the standalone Siri app |
| Siri Recap | A high-level summary of ambient conversation for later review | Deleted within seven days; can be saved on an iPhone |
Both features are described as opt-in and manually enabled. NeoTeo has also covered privacy and recording-law questions around Apple Watch audio.
The build and device requirements in the walkthrough
A 9to5Mac walkthrough demonstrates watchOS 27.3 Developer Beta 1, build 24S5284h, running on Apple Watch Ultra 4. Apple’s Audio Intelligence support guide names Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. The 9to5Mac presenter says the features require either watch paired with an iPhone 16 or later, and specifically excludes iPhone 15 Pro models and iPhone 16e.
Where testers found the controls, and what one noticed
The walkthrough shows setup in the Watch app; beta users also pointed to the Watch app’s Siri settings. Some testers reported that the controls did not appear immediately. Those reports describe individual beta experiences, not a reliable fix or a consistent result for every device.
One tester reported that a limited test using television audio missed or misunderstood words. Another said Live Rewind worked while Siri Recap did not appear. These are individual early-beta observations, not a measured accuracy rate.
