The deciding factor between Apple Watch Series 12 and Google Pixel Watch 5 is often the phone already in your pocket: Apple’s watch works only with iPhone, while Google’s works with most Android phones running Android 12 or newer. In the US, Series 12 starts at $399; Pixel Watch 5 Wi-Fi starts at $399 for 41 mm and $429 for 45 mm.
Start with phone compatibility
Apple Watch Series 12 requires an iPhone; Apple specifies iPhone 11 or later with iOS 27 or later. Google says Pixel Watch 5 works with most phones running Android 12 or newer and also requires a Google Account and the Pixel Watch app.
That makes the choice unusually straightforward: if you use an iPhone, Series 12 is the compatible option. If you use an eligible Android phone, Pixel Watch 5 is the one to consider.
US prices and the physical differences
Apple lists Apple Watch Series 12 from $399 in the United States. Google announced US Wi-Fi prices of $399 for the 41 mm Pixel Watch 5 and $429 for the 45 mm model.
The watches also take different shapes. Series 12 has a rectangular display and comes in 42 mm and 46 mm case sizes. Pixel Watch 5 has a round display, with 41 mm and 45 mm options.
| Model | Phone compatibility | Shape and case sizes |
| Apple Watch Series 12 | iPhone 11 or later with iOS 27 or later | Rectangular; 42 mm or 46 mm |
| Google Pixel Watch 5 | Most phones with Android 12 or later; Google Account and Pixel Watch app required | Round; 41 mm or 45 mm |
What a reported heart-rate comparison found
In a reported three-mile run comparison against a Polar H10 chest strap, Apple Watch Series 12 tracked almost identically to the reference device. Pixel Watch 5 averaged less than 2 beats per minute of difference from it.
Those results describe that particular run, not a universal accuracy ranking. Heart-rate readings can vary across people and conditions, so the comparison is a useful observation rather than a guarantee of performance for every workout.
Battery estimates depend on mode and size
Apple rates Series 12 for up to 24 hours of regular use, or up to 38 hours in Low Power Mode. Google’s estimates are up to 30 hours for Pixel Watch 5 in 41 mm and up to 40 hours in 45 mm. Apple’s figures distinguish operating modes; Google’s vary by case size, so they are not a like-for-like battery test.
A separate reported Series 12 use test, involving a three-mile GPS run and one night of sleep tracking, lasted about 30 hours. That is a specific use observation, distinct from Apple’s battery rating.
Google also announced monthly blood-pressure and insulin-resistance trend summaries as upcoming features subject to regional availability. Google describes these trends as wellness information, not tools for diagnosis or treatment.
