The Long-Awaited Continuation

During Comic-Con in San Diego, the first trailer for the series Ash vs. Evil Dead was unveiled. This is the long-awaited continuation of the Evil Dead film trilogy, which came to a calamitous end back in 1992 with Army of Darkness. Thirty years have passed since the events that began in that cabin, and Ash now leads a lonely, boring life. But that’s about to change with an invasion of Deadites — the evil souls of the dead created by the Necronomicon. Once again, the beleaguered antihero must face demonic creatures to save humanity.

Although it’s true that the franchise was resurrected in 2013 with the Evil Dead remake, let’s be honest: IT’S NOT EVIL DEAD! Just watching the trailer of this new series makes it clear that Ash vs. Evil Dead is the true return of Evil Dead. The video offers a glimpse of the first episode, starting with Ash briefly explaining to his partner Pablo what happened in the cabin and his connection to the Necronomicon, the Book of the Dead. The action doesn’t wait, with all sorts of monstrosities appearing and the presence of Ruby, a woman who believes Ash is the cause of this entire evil outbreak. Forced to face his demons — personal and literal — Ash is back to kicking ass with his favorite weapons: a shotgun and a chainsaw. Groovy!

Cast and Production

The series stars Bruce Campbell, reprising his role as Ash Williams. The cast also includes Lucy Lawless (who previously worked with Campbell on Xena: Warrior Princess) as Ruby, Ray Santiago as Pablo, Dana Delorenzo, and Jill Marie Jones. Produced by Renaissance Pictures, Sam Raimi (director of the Evil Dead trilogy) will direct the first episode of this season. The season consists of ten half-hour episodes and will air on Starz starting October 31, 2015. This year, we’re in for the best Halloween night ever.
