A report published October 6 says Xbox CEO Asha Sharma described Gen-10, the next Xbox generation associated with Project Helix, as a family of devices with a console first. She also referred to players who are on the go, placing portable play in the wider strategy around the next Xbox.

The reported family-of-devices remarks

In remarks from an internal Xbox town hall, Sharma described Gen-10 as a family of devices and said a console would come first. She also acknowledged that many players are on the go. The remarks broaden the reported strategy around Project Helix while keeping the console at its center.

What Microsoft has said about Project Helix

At GDC on March 11, 2026, Microsoft described Project Helix as its next-generation, first-party Xbox console project. Microsoft says the console is designed to play Xbox console games and PC games, and is powered by a custom AMD system-on-chip, or SoC—the main chip that combines key processing components.

Microsoft says the SoC is being co-designed for the next generation of DirectX and FSR, including FSR Next. It also describes Helix as targeting an order-of-magnitude leap in ray-tracing performance and capability.

The developer-alpha milestone

Microsoft planned to begin sending alpha versions of Helix hardware to developers in 2027. Alpha hardware is an early development version used by developers as work on the platform continues. The 2027 milestone is about developer testing.

What the portable-play reference adds

The reported remarks place players on the go alongside a console-first strategy. Microsoft’s public description identifies the next-generation console project; Sharma’s reported wording frames Gen-10 as a broader family of devices.
