When we buy a computer and decide to install Windows as the operating system, we are not only installing a system to use the computer, but we are also handing over the computer (and part of our privacy) to Microsoft. To combat Windows a bit, which includes many options we don't use and gradually "swells", we have found a program called Auslogics Windows Slimmer, which basically reduces the size of Windows, freeing up disk space. The platform removes: files from previous versions of Windows, obsolete libraries, temporary Windows update files, system restore points, temporary folders, items available in the Recycle Bin, Windows pre-sale test files, and so on.
In our first scan, the tool freed more than 30 GB, permanently deleting the "Windows.old" folder without any permission problems. This action alone justifies downloading the platform, because manually deleting the "Windows.old" folder is really a complicated task.
During installation of the utility, we recommend you be careful and do not install any additional software; not installing these third-party environments does not affect the proper functioning of Auslogics Windows Slimmer.
When you enter the platform interface, you will see the One-Time Maintenance and Regular Maintenance modes that you will use to reduce the size of Windows.
One-Time Maintenance
From One-Time Maintenance, you can delete all obsolete WinSxS libraries, disabled components, Windows Update files, the previous version of Windows, system restore points, and Windows demo content. Scans are done individually; you cannot select all the options mentioned above and run a general scan.
Regular Maintenance
From Regular Maintenance, you can clean memory dumps, items in the Recycle Bin, program logs, temporary folders, and the optical drive cache folder (files prepared for writing). At this point, you can select all options and run a general scan with a single click.
The program also has other options such as uninstalling programs, but when it comes to removing obsolete Windows files, Auslogics Windows Slimmer fulfills its function admirably. Although in our cleanup some options did not work (CD and DVD burner cache), the rest of the features worked perfectly, and we freed a large amount of disk space.
