Amazon says AWS plans to add two million additional NVIDIA GPUs across its global infrastructure during 2027–2028. The schedule follows an earlier plan, announced at NVIDIA GTC 2026, to add more than one million GPUs beginning in 2026. Both figures describe planned capacity, not a count of GPUs already installed, according to Amazon’s announcement.
| Plan | Planned GPU addition | Schedule |
| Earlier AWS plan | More than 1 million NVIDIA GPUs | Beginning in 2026 |
| Additional AWS expansion | 2 million NVIDIA GPUs | 2027–2028 |
The schedule adds a capacity timeline to AWS’s third-quarter growth, covered in NeoTeo’s earlier results report.
A separate plan for U.S. government AI factories
Amazon also described plans for AI factories serving the U.S. government, including 100,000 GPUs on secure AWS infrastructure for workloads classified at Impact Level 6 (IL6) and above. That figure applies to the government infrastructure plan; Amazon’s announcement gives the broader AWS expansion its own quantities and schedule.
