On October 14, Bloomberg reported that OpenAI named Uday Ruddarraju to lead its infrastructure and compute businesses. Sachin Katti was expected to transition out of the infrastructure role over the following weeks and remain an adviser, while The Wall Street Journal separately reported that Katti would leave OpenAI in November 2026. Ruddarraju’s reported role

Bloomberg reported that Ruddarraju, who became OpenAI’s chief technology officer for compute in July 2026, would lead both infrastructure and compute. The appointment brings those responsibilities under his leadership; Bloomberg described Katti’s transition from the infrastructure role as a separate step.

Katti’s transition and departure

Bloomberg said Katti planned to remain an adviser after transitioning out of the infrastructure role. The Wall Street Journal reported that he was expected to leave OpenAI in November 2026. In his own X post, Katti said he was moving on to build something new and planned to continue as an adviser after Nov. 15.

The infrastructure work in context

Katti took over OpenAI’s Stargate data-center effort in March 2026, according to Data Center Dynamics. The Wall Street Journal also reported that Katti worked on expanding OpenAI’s computing capacity through agreements with providers including Amazon Web Services. OpenAI later made separate deals with SoftBank and Oracle after an attempt to reach a deal with both companies together did not succeed, the Journal reported.
