BootSafe is a program that lets you restart your computer in safe mode without having to intervene during the boot process. This way you can start Windows with minimal functionality (without active programs) so you can fix system problems.
Safe Mode Options
BootSafe offers four boot modes that you can configure for the next system restart:
- "Normal Mode": the computer boots normally (no restrictions).
- "Safe Mode": the computer restarts in safe mode, where you can only use basic controls and important services (the rest are restricted).
- "Safe Mode with Networking": you get the same services as the previous option but with network and internet actions added.
- "Safe Mode with Command Prompt": this environment only offers a command-line interface so you can solve problems from there.
For the last option, starting the computer in command-line safe mode, you'll need to copy the BootSafe executable to the System32 folder. This action saves time when you run the platform's parameters.
Command Line Parameters
BootSafe includes the following parameters:
- /restart (restarts Windows with the current configuration)
- /reboot (same as the previous option)
- /normal (restarts Windows normally)
- /safe (restarts Windows in safe mode)
- /safenet (restarts Windows with network functions)
- /safecmd (restarts Windows in safe mode with command prompt)
- /remove (deletes BootSafe settings)
BootSafe is a very good tool for restarting the system in safe mode without having to intervene in the boot process. Although it doesn't offer options to run from network paths (Windows must have access to the BootSafe executable), it has other interesting features. BootSafe is a free, portable program that's available for Windows operating systems from XP onward.
