We’ve seen this so many times that we’ve lost count, and yet the horror of a web browser ravaged by toolbars and plugins hasn’t lost its relevance. Some of these parasites have the dignity to offer a formal uninstall process, but the more malicious ones can hide their presence from the user, so they demand a different kind of tool. Many antimalware platforms can detect and uproot these elements, but it’s not a bad idea to identify those plugins before you grab the broom.
What BrowserAddonsView Does
To that end, let’s make room for BrowserAddonsView, a tool from Nirsoft. This small module detects extensions, plugins, toolbars, and ActiveX modules installed in Google Chrome, Firefox, and more. Each entry is identified by type, status (whether it’s active or not), and version number, and it also shows any internal description they might have.
Once you’ve found the offending item, you have the option to remove it from within the browser, through the Programs and Features section of the Control Panel, or by visiting the folder where it’s stored and attacking it from that route.
Like the rest of Nirsoft’s programs, BrowserAddonsView is completely portable and has no external dependencies. Its compatibility ranges from Windows XP to Windows 10, but it comes with a couple of details to keep in mind.
