Unlike other remote access platforms, Brynhildr stands out because it lets you remotely control both the server computer and the client computer. Its capabilities go beyond that: you can transfer files in two directions (server and client), and control almost all computer actions, such as playing audio and video, opening browsers, viewing images, accessing hard drives, and using installed programs. However, to use the tool, both computers must be connected to the same network.
Setting up the server
First, download and install Brynhildr (our VirusTotal tests found no threats) on the server computer. Then, from the Mode dropdown menu, select the Server option. Enter the port the client computer will use, then activate the Control option. When you're done, click OK to run the server.
Setting up the client
Now install Brynhildr on the client computer. Remember that it's essential for the computer to be on the same network as the server. To connect to the server, go to the menu and select the Client option. There, enter the IP address and port of the server computer. Then just click OK to start screen sharing and control the computer from a window on your desktop.
Sending files between computers
If your network has a good Internet speed, the desktop exchange happens in real time. Users with slower connections, however, have experienced delays. Among all the features mentioned earlier, we want to focus on file transfer between computers (server–client). To send a file from the server computer to the client computer, all you have to do is drag the file to the Brynhildr window (if the interface is minimized, do it from the icon in the system tray).
Remember that you can send only one file at a time, and there are no limits on weight or number of transfers. When the transfer finishes, the file will be stored in the recv folder (inside the Brynhildr directory). To send files from the client computer, right-click on the top frame of the Brynhildr window and select the Send File option.
Brynhildr is indeed a great platform for sharing a desktop between two computers connected to the same network. What's interesting about the environment are its options for sharing files, sharing the Clipboard, and sharing multimedia files. It works for free on Windows operating systems.
