However, an enthusiast named Handy Geng decided to push all limits and build a giant portable battery with an estimated capacity of 27,000,000 mAh, based on an electric car battery, and a good dose of humor…
The DIY space is full of surprises, and to find the most interesting creators, sometimes we must step outside the Western sphere and explore other regions. With that in mind, we arrived at Handy Geng’s YouTube channel, also known as “Useless Edison”, who stands out for strange creations like a wheelchair that mows the lawn, and a refrigerator that forces you to exercise before opening it.
Handy Geng’s new plan came after seeing his friends’ portable batteries, much larger and with higher capacity than his own. Determined not to be left behind, Geng started building what is probably the world’s largest portable battery, with a capacity of 27,000,000 mAh. The idea of soldering so many 18650 batteries together is chilling, but Geng found an excellent shortcut…
The world’s largest portable battery? 27,000,000 mAh
Of course, I’m referring to an electric car battery. Unfortunately I can’t identify the exact model, but the capacity calculation makes sense: A Tesla battery of 100 kWh has a capacity of 248 Ah at 375 volts, and running at 3.5V it’s very close to the 27,000 Ah (27,000,000 mAh) of Geng’s battery.
In other words, this portable battery can fully charge about 5,000 smartphones, though it only has 60 power outlets. After showing off the battery to his friends and helping one of them recharge his electric motorcycle (let’s not forget it’s ‘portable’), Geng watched TV, washed his clothes, and cooked by the river.
The big question that remains is how Geng will recharge that monster once its energy is depleted. If we follow his previous creations, he’ll surely find an unusual and colorful way. A treadmill on top of the battery, or maybe a couple of stationary bikes…?
