Author of forty-four novels and one hundred twenty-one short stories, many of which have won numerous awards, the works of Philip K. Dick have been adapted into movies and TV shows such as Blade Runner (which years later would lead to a dispute between Philip Dick's daughter and Google), A Scanner Darkly, and Minority Report. Now a game based on the works of Philip K. Dick called Californium. Although the game is not legally allowed to use the author's name, Californium is a first-person adventure that takes various parts of Dick's life, such as his failed marriages or his drug addiction, and brings them together into a great story with the life of the game's main character, writer Elvin Green.
Elvin Green is a writer trapped in changing realities. Your goal will be to explore these surreal worlds inspired by the life and works of Philip K. Dick. As can be seen in the game's videos, the world of Californium is set in the 70s, with many vivid colors and psychedelic images. You can see a woman in a green dress, and a disdainful editor, based on Dick's struggles to be recognized by the dominant literary community. Then there is the reality change that can occur while walking, talking to people, or looking around.
At some point, maybe, you might see glasses on the table only for them to turn into a book, or discover that a light switch has changed from one place to another. When you find abnormal things like those, you'll be exposed to another reality. If all goes well, we could be facing the ideal adventure for all followers of the life and works of Philip K. Dick. Californium is being developed by Darjeeling together with Nova Productions and will be available on PC. The game doesn't have a specific release date, but it is expected to hit Steam in early 2016.
