CATL had opened an office in Argentina and was supplying technology for two AlmaGBA battery-storage projects, according to a report published by LA NACION on October 30, 2026. The projects, awarded to Central Puerto, are Nuevo Puerto and Central Costanera.

The two projects total 205 MW of power

LA NACION reported power ratings of 150 MW for Nuevo Puerto and 55 MW for Central Costanera. Nuevo Puerto has a reported 15-year supply contract with Edenor; Central Costanera is intended to serve Edesur.

Together, the projects total 205 MW of power. MW measures power, while stored energy is measured in units such as MWh or GWh. The 205 MW figure is not an energy-capacity figure.

CATL’s other Argentina targets remain prospective

CATL’s Argentine operation head, Lucas Ponce, said the company had spoken with the 35 companies participating in AlmaSADI, a separate storage procurement process described as being at an early stage. Those discussions were not an award to CATL. Ponce also identified mining and data centers as future growth targets in Argentina.

A separate storage project in Chile

For regional context, pv magazine Latinoamérica reported on October 29, 2024, that Grenergy had selected CATL to supply 1.25 GWh for the fourth phase of the Oasis de Atacama project in Chile. The report described that project’s CATL EnerX containers as exceeding 5.6 MWh per six-meter container and using 530 Ah LFP cells. These figures relate to the Chilean project.
