If you played Sonic Adventure, you surely remember the little Chao. These friendly characters were both in the main story and in a minigame where you had to raise them. Based on that last part, a fan presents Chao Resort Island, a free Sonic game, in Tamagotchi style.

Chao Resort Island

If you played Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2, then you most likely remember the cute Chao. These adorable characters appear both in the main campaign and in a minigame, where you can raise Chao as virtual pets and teach them skills like swimming, running, and flying. Sonic Adventure 2 expanded the feature by adding alignments for the good or evil side depending on the caretaker. Raising Chao was very popular in the original Sonic Adventure titles. As a result, the minigame was relatively advanced for its time, making Chao a suitable way to raise virtual pets. To this day, this minigame is still well remembered among fans, and those memories from the 2000s are one of the reasons why Sonic fans are excited about Chao Resort Island, a free Sonic game, in Tamagotchi style.

Chao Resort Island takes place on a tropical island where you can choose between Sonic, Shadow, or Knuckles, to raise Chao from egg to adulthood. Just like in the Sonic Adventure games, there are alignments, fruits to feed the creatures, skills to teach, and objects to give them to play with. You can raise up to eight Chao at the same time, allowing you to explore among their different alignments. There is also a schedule system and seasonal changes (which are set according to your computer's clock and calendar), and a variety of activities to test the Chao's skills. The 2.5D graphics look fantastic and give the feeling of playing one of the early games that came out for the Game Boy Advance in the early 2000s. Developed by Nefault1st, Chao Resort Island is available for free download for Windows and Mac.
