In this article, we introduce you to a new freeware from Microsoft. This Windows 10 program lets you plot 3D bar charts, line charts, scatter plots, and geospatial diagrams. You can also use the environment to visualize data from Excel and CSV in interactive 3D charts.
Other highlights of Chart 3D include the ability to zoom with the mouse wheel to view the 3D planes from any angle and the option to capture charts as PNG images for use in presentations.
Plot 3D Bar Charts and Line Charts with Chart 3D
The platform is developed with 3D and MR (Mixed Reality) that allows you to create attractive 3D charts from its tools spread across its interface. On the left side, you will find options to create, open, save, import, and export projects. On the right side, you will find tools to change, manipulate, and filter the visualizations.
On the left side, you will see the visualization of the opened CSV file. At the top, there are options to toggle between 2D and 3D modes and view individual planes (you will also find a camera icon to take screenshots and a microphone icon for voice commands).
Chart Types You Can Create with Chart 3D
Scatter Plot
With this type of visualization, you can create a scatter plot of data in a 3D plane. The directions you can choose for the columns are X, Y, Z, and you can visualize them in 3D, with connected line visualizations, and you will find additional fields (color column, size, and names).
Bar Chart
The Bar Chart visualization option is for creating a bar chart of your data. There, you can select two categories of data columns (from the dataset) and set a value column to create a 3D bar chart.
Line Chart
With this option, you can plot a visualization of connected lines from two data columns. You can also select two category columns for the visualization along with a value column. Visualizations can be done in 2D, 3D, and with the option to show or hide "markers".
Geospatial Plot
With Geospatial Plot, you can plot data on a map (a rotating spherical Earth map and a flat map). You will need to select two source and destination columns from the dataset, along with the value column. Then click "Apply" to visualize the data on the map.
Really, Chart 3D is a very good platform for creating 3D charts. It is really light compared to other similar tools and works very well on old computers that are not fully prepared for visualizing 3D charts.
