ChatGPT has taken the web by storm. Any interested user can register on OpenAI's official portal and have a conversation with the model, or, as an alternative, try to drive it crazy. Its creators are doing everything they can to limit the number of false or harmful expressions, but engineer Wang Dàpéng had another idea: integrate its responses into Google searches with the open-source extension ChatGPT for Google.
We know that Google's search engine is not going through one of its best moments. Users try to escape spam and content farms using tricks like adding "reddit" at the end. We recently talked about the Andi project, an artificial intelligence-based search engine that gives answers instead of links, and it was very well received among users. The feeling is that traditional searches need a change, and the solution may lie in developments like ChatGPT. Would you like to integrate the new assistant's responses into your searches? There's an extension for that.
How to Include ChatGPT Responses in Your Searches
The extension is named ChatGPT for Google, and it is a creation of engineer Wang Dàpéng. The only technical requirement does not come from the extension, but from ChatGPT: we need to create an account on OpenAI and verify it with a mobile number (the platform sends us a special code via SMS).
The rest is a matter of searching something on Google. The ChatGPT window appears on the right side of the interface, and there we can see everything the assistant has to say about our query. The material used to train ChatGPT has a cutoff that reaches 2021, so it is very likely that its responses about current events and news are incorrect or incomplete. For example: when searching for information about the World Cup in Qatar, ChatGPT suggests that the tournament has not yet started.
Another restriction in ChatGPT is that it cannot browse the web, nor share links. And one of the most interesting contradictions involves languages: ChatGPT was trained in English, but if you do a search in Spanish, it is possible that you receive a response in that language.
