Chemistry can seem strange and intimidating, but it doesn't have to be. There's a vast amount of information about formulas, compounds, and structures, yet sometimes we're missing a certain "visual component" that helps us understand it a little better.

That's where Beautiful Chemistry comes in. This is a collaboration between the University of Science and Technology of China and Tsinghua University Press that shares computer-generated reproductions of proteins, viruses, and common elements, from aluminum to table salt.

The first version of the Beautiful Chemistry site was launched in September 2014. Since then, it has produced a large number of graphics, as well as reactions captured on video that you can see here.

The next edition of the portal appeared in December 2015, but its creators decided to preserve all previous content under a special section (History). Some of the figures may seem too simple, but we cannot deny there is a certain beauty in their symmetry. To see the rest, you'll find it at this link.
