Claude Personal Finance can read selected U.S. bank and card account data through Plaid, but unlinking an account stops future reads without automatically removing figures already saved in chats, artifacts, or shared links. Anthropic announced the feature on November 5, 2026, as a gradual U.S. beta for Pro, Max, and Ultra subscribers. Its Help Center lists Claude on the web, Desktop, iOS, and Android as supported platforms.

The beta connects U.S. banks only. Claude’s access is read-only: it can’t move or manage money, make investments, or provide investment advice, according to Anthropic.

Check which accounts Claude can read before relying on its money-left figure. A bank it can’t access is left out of the spending total.

What Claude can read from linked accounts

Users choose which accounts to share and connect them through Plaid, where they sign in and authorize access. Claude does not receive the bank password. The beta supports up to 16 banks and can read up to 24 months of transactions for accounts a user selects.

The data can include a bank’s name; account names, types, and last digits; balances and credit limits; and transaction amounts, dates, merchants, categories, and bank descriptions. Anthropic warns that sensitive details could also be visible if someone has entered them in an account name or transaction description.

Credit-card, loan, and investment accounts can be linked, but Claude reads their balances and credit limits, not investment holdings, trades, interest rates, or account terms. It can’t provide a full investment portfolio view or explain a loan’s terms from those accounts.

The Personal Finance dashboard can display spending, cash flow, accounts, subscriptions, upcoming bills, and short AI-generated insights. Users can add, edit, remove, and reorder its widgets. Anthropic says conversations in the Personal Finance hub aren’t used to train its models; conversations elsewhere in Claude follow the user’s regular privacy settings. Anthropic’s hosting providers and Plaid also handle financial data.

Unlinking stops reads, but existing content can remain

Disconnecting a bank prevents Claude from reading that bank going forward. It doesn’t automatically remove figures already present in chats, artifacts, or shared links; those items must be removed separately. Unlinking a bank also disconnects every account shared through that bank login, rather than just one account. Unlinking the last bank resets the dashboard.

In a chat, users can turn Plaid access off or require approval before Claude reads account data, subject to that chat’s approval settings. Claude also asks before linking or unlinking a bank in a chat.

Why Claude’s money-left estimate can be too high

A balance may be one or two days old, and transactions can take minutes to sync. If Claude can’t read a bank, it leaves that bank out of spending figures, which can make the dashboard show more money left than the user actually has. Anthropic also warns that Claude can make mistakes, so important amounts should be checked against the bank’s app or statements.
