CloneApp brings a solution that is uncommon in the world of applications: the tool clones the settings of the apps installed on your operating system so you can export that configuration to a new installation. The service lets you carry your applications, together with all their settings, to a clean install. Visit the official CloneApp page for more details.
CloneApp is a very easy-to-use tool that plays a useful but often overlooked role. It clones (copies, in other words) the configuration of every application installed on your PC, so that when you do a clean reinstall of your operating system you don’t have to do the job by hand. Super useful! Best of all, CloneApp is a portable program (no installation required) weighing just 1MB. Without a doubt, a tool that should be in every maintenance USB stick.
How to use CloneApp
How do you use it? On the left side of the interface you’ll find several options. To clone the configuration of the apps you plan to reinstall, start from 'Home' and select the ones you intend to reinstall on a new operating system. Once you’ve ticked every app you want to 'clone', all that’s left is to click 'Backup'. This generates one or more folders in the app’s 'Backup' directory, each with the configuration files of the programs you’re cloning. What CloneApp does is save, among other things, the registry keys, which is where applications store their settings.
Once you’ve cloned all your applications, save the application folder (with the contents of the Backup folder) on a USB drive. To restore a clone, select the utility and click 'Restore'. The platform does all the work. If what you want is to clone applications from the Universal Windows Platform, you’ll need to download CloneApp UA, a version designed specifically for that task.
In our tests, the environment behaved stably and worked perfectly, cloning the registry of apps like CCleaner, Google Chrome, Firefox, Filezilla and GIMP, though with a few applications we didn’t have as much luck. CloneApp is a free, portable application available for Windows operating systems.
