The idea of learning programming by playing is not exactly new. We have previously explored projects like Code Kingdoms, CodeCombat, JSRobot, and CodeGym, all aimed at the little ones at home. However, there is also Codédex, which offers tutorials in Python, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript where we must complete tasks, accumulate experience, and unlock new achievements.
Video games can teach us much more than we imagine. How many times have we memorized stats, patterns, and positions? How many times have we taken a piece of paper to draw puzzles half-finished? Nowadays, wikis and digital maps have freed us from that work, but if we really want to be good at a game, casual sessions are not enough.
The same happens when it comes to learning programming. Accumulating flight hours is essential, so why not do it by playing? That is the proposal of Codédex, a platform with free tutorials in Python, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, especially designed for beginners. How to Learn Programming with Codédex
The general courses are divided into two parts: The first is called The Origins, focused on HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, a trilogy of 16 chapters in total. And the second is The Legend of Python, with basic instructions for that language in eight chapters. Each of them will present specific objectives ranging from creating the first «Hello World» to structures, formats, variables, properties, and much more.
For the moment, not all exercises are available (many show the legend "Coming soon"), and English dominates the interface, but we are facing such a simple and intuitive environment that we can follow its instructions even with the natural barriers of that language.
