The landline phone is becoming a relic in many parts of the world. Mobile telephony has replaced it in almost every way, aside from connectivity issues and lithium battery limitations. The traditional line tends to be more stable and robust (two critical factors in emergencies), but there is another reason to keep one: the wide array of fabulous retro telephones we can find on the market. From the classic black phone seen in newsrooms to promotional models launched by famous brands, these units deserve at least a place on a shelf.
In fact, some phones became an extra income (or so it was hoped) for certain artists, such as Boy George with his "Teléfono Karma Chameleon", created from a robotic chameleon that plays the classic song when it receives a call:
If you are interested in starting to collect retro telephones, you should know there are many references out there, including the book "Collectible Novelty Phones" written by former AT&T technician James David Davis (starting at eight dollars on Amazon). What we are about to share is a gallery of some of the rarest and most sought-after landline phones. The more "official" the phone, the greater the interest, but there are exceptions. After all, I don't think anyone would show great enthusiasm for showing off their "exclusive" New Kids on the Block phone...
