Commonwealth Bank of Australia said on October 3, 2026, that an initial group of 20 engineers will take part in Anthropic’s Claude Frontier Academy. The program’s first offering, the Frontier Deployed Engineer Residency, combines an intensive training stage with a project at the participant’s organization.

A four-day intensive, then a 12-week residency

The residency begins with a four-day intensive. For the first three days, participants build a Claude system for a simulated enterprise; on day four, they complete a graded practical exercise using a new scenario. Those who pass earn the Claude Resident Engineer badge.

Participants then spend 12 weeks leading a Claude deployment or use case at their own organization, with cohort mentorship and support from Anthropic engineers. A final practical assessment follows the residency. Successful participants earn the Claude Frontier Deployed Engineer badge, with Anthropic expecting the first badges in early 2027.

Who can participate?

Organizations nominate participants; this is not an open-enrollment residency. Anthropic describes the program as being in early access with a select group of customers and partners, and directs interested organizations to their Anthropic account team or partner manager.

The intended participants are hands-on software engineers with strong fundamentals, experience building with large language models (LLMs), and experience helping others adopt AI. Anthropic says prior experience building AI agents is not required. The separate Claude Academy is open to everyone; it is distinct from the nomination-based residency.

Anthropic’s commitment and 2027 goal

Anthropic announced the Academy on October 2, 2026, with an initial $100 million commitment. The company aims to train 10,000 Frontier Deployed Engineers by the end of 2027.

First cohort locations and organizations

Anthropic names San Francisco, New York and London as locations for the first cohorts. It lists engineers from Accenture, Bain, Capgemini, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Deloitte, McKinsey, Morgan Stanley and Novo Nordisk among the participants in those cohorts.
