I admit that it's not hard to cite examples of exuberant sensuality in the world of video games, but one of them definitely includes Mai Shiranui. In addition to being one of the pillars of the Fatal Fury and King of Fighters franchises, Mai has also become a highly popular character for cosplay, though her revealing outfit and the generosity of her curves pose some challenges… especially if you are a man. However, that did not stop Australian cosplayer Ameno Kitarou Wirru, who spared no details in his design.
Mai Shiranui! A huge crush for thousands of players… and a source of certain personal explorations for millions more. According to the lore, she first appeared in Fatal Fury 2, is hopelessly in love with Andy Bogard, and the famous physics effect on her chest was censored in more than one region, as were other aspects of her outfit. Beyond the limited impact of her attacks, Mai can be particularly lethal in the hands of a player who manages to maximize her speed, and on several occasions she has been recommended as ideal for beginners.
But there is another element that accentuates Mai's popularity, and that is cosplay. The same applies to the unforgettable Chun-Li, who was part of the Mexican team that won the World Cosplay Summit this year, but I am not convinced that there is a kind of 'rivalry' between those who adopt both characters. Cosplay is flexible, has ample room for improvisation (anyone who doubts that only needs to see the Low Cost Cosplay images), and makes room for everyone. When I say 'everyone', that also includes a man dressed as Mai.
Australian cosplayer Ameno Kitarou Wirru has just taken the Web by storm with his fabulous Mai Shiranui cosplay, and he was kind enough to share a good part of the process.
