Many of us spend hours in front of a computer, console, or mobile device playing games, from Solitaire to Day of the Tentacle. But one thing is playing, and quite another is developing them. Video game design is a task for people with deep knowledge. That's why in this article we'll show you a tool for creating games by drawing.
How Draw Your Game Works
The people behind Draw Your Game created a program so that both adults and children could develop games by drawing directly from your mobile device. The Draw Your Game platform requires you to pass some levels; this way you'll earn resources to play and create (you can also pay to skip the levels).
Once you've passed these levels, you'll have access to the Play mode, which has a catalog of games created by other users. Or you can create your own from scratch (unlocking the Create mode).
Creating Your Own Game
When you select Create, you'll see two options. The first is to draw on paper using crayons, markers, and other materials, then photograph it so the environment turns it into a game. After that, you can insert your own characters into the creation. When we talk about drawing on paper, we don't mean a digital paper, but a real (blank) sheet. On the paper you'll need four colors: black for the scenery, green for the platforms (which bounce), blue for objects with movement, and red for hazards.
Next, you have to take a photo of the drawing so the platform can transform it from a simple paper drawing into a video game (it takes about 10 seconds). You can create whatever storyline you want or whatever worlds you need.
If you pay, or unlock all levels, you'll have access to a digital drawing platform. In this way you can create your games entirely from a digital environment.
What You Can (and Can't) Create
At this point, we should mention that you can create basic games – as you can see, there is no depth of field, let alone three dimensions. And even if you put several hours of work into the drawing, you'll only get a nicer-looking game platform, but for example, you won't create a graphic adventure.
We could say the platform gives you the possibility to make a game by playing because when you do the drawing, you can have a great time with the little ones or spend a pleasant moment alone. The ability to combine physical objects and virtual elements makes the creation process more fun than the game itself.
Draw Your Game is really aimed at children or younger users, but we wouldn't rule out a twenty-something, a thirty-something, a forty-something, a fifty-something, or a sixty-something downloading the program and having a great time creating games by drawing.
