The available builds have given rise to all kinds of strange experiments, and one of them comes via X-Twitter, where user PatRyk decided to install Windows 11 on a Nintendo Switch. The result is (probably) one of the slowest computers in the world, with a 3-hour installation and a ten-second lag between commands…
Although we all know that computers should look for other options beyond the "tyranny of x86", the truth is that we are always waiting… for something. Either ARM chips are not compatible and powerful enough, or it's Microsoft who keeps dragging its feet with its builds. However, everything seems to indicate that the situation will improve with Windows 11 on ARM. The most audacious users can already experiment with special builds, and that brings us to X-Twitter, where user PatRyk decided to install Windows 11 on Fedora Linux… with a Nintendo Switch.
Windows 11 on a Nintendo Switch: A Nightmare
PatRyk himself tells us that he has created "the slowest computer in the world" with this experiment. The installation process took three hours, and each command registers a lag close to ten seconds. Of course, the software combination doesn't help: the "base" operating system is actually Fedora Linux, which served to virtualize all the Windows 11 madness on top. The Linux installation was done using a microSD card with Switchroot, so it depends on an earlier version of the console.
Now, blaming the software for every problem isn't entirely reasonable. The classic strategy of "Lateral thinking with withered technology" has served Nintendo very well, but we must not forget that the Switch is a 2017 console, with a Tegra X1 chip from 2015. It's no coincidence that complaints for a second version multiply on the Web: the Nintendo Switch has a great catalog, but it needs more firepower these days.
As for the mod, we certainly don't recommend it… but we're not going to stop you if you want to reproduce it.
