In yet another episode of "Let's turn Disney princesses into something else", the path leads us to the profile of a Ukrainian illustrator and model named Daria Artemieva. What sets Daria apart from other artists is that she has been imagining Disney princesses as… influencers? In essence, if the princesses had a life of their own and an Instagram account, they would probably look exactly as Daria draws them.
We've seen them as real people, and someone even took the trouble to portray them with a very interesting film noir style. While I wouldn't dare say there's some sort of obsession with Disney princesses, it's clear that they are very attractive to hundreds of illustrators across the web. Another curious aspect is that Disney tends to defend its intellectual property fiercely (while killing mosquitoes and rewriting laws), but it hasn't done anything major against them. That becomes fertile ground for artists like Daria Artemieva, who decided to reinterpret the princesses with an "Instagram influencer" touch, aimed at the millennial audience.
Logically, the trained eye will detect the intruders in the gallery below, but I think it's worth including them anyway. Judging by the comments on her official Instagram profile, Daria's versions weren't always well received due to their supposed "sexualization" (the case of Aladdin and Jasmine below speaks for itself), but if there's one thing that's easy to do on the web today, it's complain. Personally, I've seen worse (you know, Rule 34).
