If you decide to invest your time and money in diving, you know well that you should prioritize some unique regions over the rest. One of them is the so-called Silfra fissure, located in Lake Þingvallavatn in Iceland. The pure water, filtered for decades by porous rock, offers extraordinary visibility to divers, but there is something more: the possibility of diving between continents, as it separates the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates.

Diving Between Continents
What makes it special? First of all, the water. Filtered for decades by porous lava rock, the water is drinkable and you can see through it as if it were a crystal. The maximum depth of the fissure reaches 63 meters, beyond the limits of non-professional diving (requires advanced technical certification), but even at levels closer to the surface, Silfra doesn't disappoint.
And second, those who visit the fissure have the possibility of diving between continents. The formation of Silfra is the product of the tectonic movement of the Eurasian and North American plates. The plates separate about two additional centimeters per year, and all the accumulated tension is released with a cycle of seismic activity that repeats approximately every ten years.
