More than fifteen minutes of DOOM Eternal gameplay!
During QuakeCon 2018, Hugo Martin and Marty Stratton from id Software took the stage to present a gameplay video of DOOM Eternal, the sequel to the latest DOOM. This sequel showcases new features that we'll detail along with a brutal action-packed video.
The main QuakeCon 2018 presentation included a fifteen-minute gameplay video of DOOM Eternal, the sequel to DOOM (2016), showing the idTech7 engine in action for the first time. As predicted after its announcement at E3 2018, this sequel will follow the leadership of Doom II since 1994 and bring the series' new demons and terrors of hell to Earth. The gameplay sequence confirms that DOOM Eternal will emphasize movement and explosive weaponry even more, with the most notable change coming from a new super shotgun that works like a grappling hook.
As you can see in the video, with this weapon equipped, you just need to aim until a small skull icon turns gold in your field of view. At that point, you can extend a chain to pull yourself toward a particular demon or use its body to swing around it in a circular motion. Doomguy (the nickname for the unnamed space marine) also comes with two new default weapons: a retractable blade on his left wrist and a shoulder-mounted flamethrower.
The flamethrower seems like a solid option for harassing a crowd of enemies when they're charging at you, while the blade is ideal for brutally and bloodily eliminating the first demon that crosses your path. But that's not all, as if you want a challenge that tests all your skills, you can now activate an option called Invasion during the campaign mode.
This will allow other online players to join and invade your game as demons. id Software emphasized that this mode would be totally optional, allowing you to deactivate it so as not to be interrupted in the campaign. DOOM Eternal is being developed by id Software and will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Windows, and Nintendo Switch. The game doesn't have a concrete release date at the moment.
