Are you one of those people who stares at their phone for long minutes, watching the two checkmarks of a WhatsApp message turn from gray to blue? Here at NeoTeo, we want to bring that same obsession to your email. That is why we present Doubletick, a Gmail extension that uses the double tick to tell you whether the recipient opened and read the email you sent.
The tool works just like WhatsApp: if the two checkmarks are gray, it means the recipient hasn't read your email, but if the two checkmarks are blue, it means the recipient has opened your email.
How to install and use Doubletick
The first thing you need to do is install the extension in your Google Chrome web browser and follow the steps the utility gives you. Then you'll be redirected to your Gmail account, where you'll see an email from the platform. At that point, you're ready to start using Doubletick.
Sending tracked emails
When you compose a new email, you'll see the 'Tracker' option in the bottom-left corner. After adding the recipient and writing the email, you can enable or disable the Tracker option (enabling it adds the Doubletick code to the body of the email).
To check whether your email has been read by the recipient, go to the Sent folder. If the checkmarks are gray, the email hasn't been opened. But if the double tick is blue, the email has been opened.
As you can see, the extension is very easy to use and brings the blue-tick service to your Gmail email.
Our experience and drawbacks
In our tests, we noticed that the tool doesn't work in real time and that the checkmarks took a long time to turn blue.
Another point we find quite invasive is the sending of a message in the body of emails: - Sent via Doubletick. This is really annoying and can even anger the recipient. But you can remove this code by paying for the version.
