The Raspberry Pi remains the most popular mini computer on the market, backed by a wide variety of compatible accessories. Cases are of special interest to us, as they not only protect the hardware but also assist in cooling and improve overclocking potential. Cooler Master entered the game with its Pi Case 40 V2 in aluminum and plastic, but there's even more: it decided to release the design under a Creative Commons license, so everyone can download, modify, and print their own versions without issues.
Raspberry Pi cases have not only escaped the "Great Drought" of recent months, but we can also find options that fit (almost) any budget. Some generic versions cost under 10 euros and include details like active cooling, while premium models protect the mini computer with pure metal, or completely transform it into a retro console.
Cooler Master took its first steps in this market with the Kickstarter of its Pi Case 40, which raised all the necessary funds in just one hour. We don't usually cover product launches, but the new Pi Case 40 V2 for Raspberry Pi 4 B comes with a gift: its model under Creative Commons, so you can download, print, and even modify its appearance using the appropriate tools.

Now, why is this news important? Because some companies have adopted a much more hostile stance towards 3D printing. The most recent case is Honda, which opened its nuclear silos and sued several hosting sites, demanding the removal of all models associated with its brand. Some believe that by removing the "trademark Honda" they can escape the manufacturer's legal fury, but the world of 3D printing is on alert. In the face of such actions, the availability of the Pi Case 40 V2 in OBJ format is undoubtedly good news.
If we focus on the product, the case is made of aluminum or plastic, includes all necessary input/output slots, a 90-degree adapter and a cable for easier access to the GPIO pins (as well as connecting HATs externally), and a power button that can be reprogrammed. The case does not have a power supply, but it does come with a VESA adapter to install the mini computer on the back of the monitor.
Back to the 3D models, Cooler Master also offers files to print mounts for m.2 drives, or for 2.5-inch disks/SSDs. All the material is available for download on the official page, while the retail version can already be found in some European stores at 18 euros.
