The download management systems in the main browsers are horrible. Many users need more advanced parameters when downloading, and the possibility of accessing some parallelism if their internet connection allows it. A very practical way to get those benefits is through extensions, and today I want to mention a true classic, DownThemAll!, available for Firefox and Google Chrome.
Downloading files should be a simple and transparent process. Unfortunately, the real world and the technological whims of the moment show us that it is not. From unstable servers to chaotic connections, through data limits, false malware positives and other spontaneous errors, a standard download can become an overdose of frustration.
A very effective technique to avoid all those headaches is to incorporate a download manager. We previously talked about Persepolis Download Manager, a good option for downloading large files, but if you are looking for something with greater integration with your favorite browser, you cannot go wrong with the classic DownThemAll!, which in addition to still being available on Firefox, has been available for Chrome and other Chromium flavors for almost three years now.

If you have never used it before, don't worry: its interface is very easy to understand, and in general it does not require any advanced adjustments. In its default configuration, DownThemAll! can capture downloads of dozens of formats, however, nothing prevents us from using the context menu to manage a download that was not detected.
The DownThemAll! configuration menu is divided into three tabs: General, Filters and Network. General has all the interface values (dark mode, sound playback, pop-up window, language, etc.), Filters defines the formats that can be intercepted by the extension, and then we get to Network, which helps us define the maximum number of simultaneous downloads, retries, the time limit between them, and the most important: the number of simultaneous connections. The factory value is "unlimited", but it is likely that you must reduce it to 8 or 4 on some servers.
Apart from that, DownThemAll! works very well, and in fact I dare to say that it will speed up the vast majority of your downloads. The extension is free and open source with a GitHub profile, but I recommend using the official stores to get the most recent builds.
