What Does 'Sweded' Mean?
The term Sweded comes from the comedy Be Kind Rewind (2008) with Jack Black, and it describes alternative versions of movies made by fans with limited resources, homemade effects, low-budget costumes, and a high degree of improvisation. Some fans took up the challenge of running very complex projects through the Sweded filter, and that brings us to the Mega64 YouTube channel, where they have published a Sweded version of the entire Cell saga in Dragon Ball Z. You can't miss this.
Compressing the Cell Saga
The original Dragon Ball Z ran for 291 episodes. Dragon Ball Z Kai brought that number down to 167, which gives you an idea of the astonishing level of filler the series had in some stretches (if I remember correctly, Frieza still holds the record for the longest five minutes in the universe). In fact, Kai wrapped up the entire Android and Cell saga in barely 44 episodes, but if you want to see an even more condensed version, you'll have to step into the curious world of Sweded.
After compressing the Frieza saga into five minutes (and piling up more than five million views in the process), the folks at Mega64 are back at it with the Cell saga:
The Absurd Charm of the Cell Saga
I don't even know where to start. The costumes. Frieza on a piece of paper cut down the middle. Everyone shouting "Oh my God!". The soundtrack. Real-time transformations with wigs. Android 16 repeating "I Love Nature". The video is very absurd, very crazy... and somehow it fits perfectly. Cell's original form with the basketballs is excellent, and I have to highlight what looks like a satellite antenna on his tail when he absorbs the androids. The "snap" moment in Gohan's mind with the cut cloth behind him is priceless, and predictably, Mister Satan stole this fight too.
For the Sake of Continuity
In the name of continuity, I've decided to include the Sweded version of the Frieza saga. Almost three years separate one video from the other, so we shouldn't expect the Majin Buu saga anytime soon. Too bad, because we need to see more.
