The DeepDream Craze
The DeepDream phenomenon is out of control — in the best way, of course. Google released the code, and since then thousands of images modified according to the vision of neural networks have emerged. Even a way to process video was found, with more than disturbing results. Now it's the turn of Dreamscope, probably the simplest option for applying neural filters to your own photos and getting results in seconds.
Let the Neural Network Dream
Let the neural network dream, and the Web will do the rest. Well... Google never said that, but it's exactly what happened. Earlier this month we announced the release of the DeepDream code, and less than two weeks later, the craze for psychedelic images has not diminished at all. The DeepDream Bot is an excellent resource for processing our images, but the wait became too long. This led to the development of new alternatives, with even more varied results. After all, the code can be coupled to other pre-trained neural networks, and generate images that go far beyond the typical dog face pattern that appeared with the original network.
Dreamscope in a Nutshell
At this point Dreamscope appears, a portal where you can upload your photo, choose the filter, and get the result in less than twenty seconds, a drastic improvement compared to DeepDream Bot. In total, there are fourteen filters, with a mysterious option that performs a random mix. The page does not indicate any limit on size or resolution, though the user should not expect any speed miracle if they decide to process a four or five megabyte JPG. Dreamscope also has a section where we can see images uploaded by users; however, we recommend caution in this space, because some of the photos are definitely NSFW.
What to Expect
Depending on the filter and the image, the result can be a minimal alteration, something that could pass as a work of art, or an element extracted from the mind of master H.R. Giger, who would surely be rubbing his hands at the possibilities DeepDream offers. Something tells me it won't be long before these filters are integrated into editing applications and platforms like Instagram. DeepDream, Dreamscope and their variants are here to stay.
