However, it's not a bad idea to start practicing using a digital alternative before investing in hardware. The Drumbit app from Portuguese developer João Santos works wonders, and you can run it in any browser, or as a Chrome-compatible extension.
When talking about making music, a good part of the public thinks about things like learning to play guitar or piano, but times and methods have changed completely.
A computer and several hundred samples are more than enough to start exploring the virtues of electronic music, but essentially there are no borders here.
If you want to take a classic instrument and create a special sound with it to combine in a synthesizer, nothing prevents you from doing so.
Now, if your decision to make music is serious, then it is inevitable to invest some money in more specialized equipment.
But don't worry: we are just starting, and the only thing you need is a kind of digital instrument, easy to use. Here is when Drumbit comes in, an application by Portuguese developer João Santos.
How to Make Music with Drumbit
The first thing I am going to recommend here is to load one of the available demos. Not only will they allow you to grasp the basic operation of Drumbit, but you will also be able to modify its parameters to your liking without negative consequences.
Drumbit has four 'memories' that record patterns, but at the same time it supports local storage.
The online version offers a total of 21 kits, 11 effects, 8 channels with 16 steps each, filter control and panning per channel (so that we can limit a channel to the left or right speaker).
Don't want to use the webapp? In that case, you might be interested in its equivalent as a Chrome extension.
In general, that edition of Drumbit is a bit more limited, but the essential functions are still there. However, the main advantage of Drumbit as a Chrome extension is that it works completely offline.
If you lose your connection for any reason, Drumbit will keep going.
To finish, we must mention Drumbit Plus, a version that expands the number of patterns, and allows us to reduce the number of steps (from 16 to 12), among other things.
Drumbit Plus is only available on Chrome, and although the global price is $2, I calculate that in your country's local store it will be cheaper. In summary, if you have thought about making music and your current budget is zero, start with Drumbit.
