If you're looking for good software to create custom DVD menus and, for some strange reason, you missed our list of suggestions earlier this year, no problem: DVDStyler has just reached version 3.0, implementing several internal changes that fix bugs and optimize the creation process, without sacrificing the comfort or familiarity of its interface.
With the help of streaming, memory cards, pen drives, smart TVs, and mobile devices, another 'dynamic' has been established when consuming multimedia content, especially everything that the phrase 'movies and series' represents. The appearance of new formats and new technologies caused the natural (and I should add inevitable) displacement of media like the DVD, but that doesn't change the fact that there are still users creating videos using cameras, phones, drones, and "anything with a lens", with the desire to edit, compile, and burn those videos to a DVD, all under a simple custom menu. That desire is what brings us back to DVDStyler, which reached version 3.0.
Those who have used DVDStyler before probably won't notice any changes, and that's because most of the changes are internal. For example, FFmpeg was updated to version 3.0, accompanied by new metadata support, compatibility with Media Player Classic Home Cinema, audio downmix to stereo (to combine multiple channels and not lose anything), fade in and fade out corrections, a forced subtitles option, and sound normalization, which should help avoid any kind of saturation. The list of improvements continues, but we cannot ignore the first element, which is support for menu animations. It's still a bit green, but it will become more intuitive with each build.
In summary: DVDStyler 3.0 is a good starting point for anyone who wants to learn how to create menus on DVDs, and a solid update for the more experienced who have been using it for a while. We also need to remember that DVDStyler 3.0 is open-source software, and is available on Windows, Linux (the official site offers tarballs), and OS X.
