Do you know genres like 'deep happy hardcore', 'bubblegum dance' or 'nu gaze'? Well, now those and many other genres are waiting for you to discover on Every Noise at Once, a map of music genres to explore and discover new music.
Do you know the difference between Danish and German pop? Do you know the genre 'hauntology' or 'terrorcore'? Those and many other genres await you to be discovered on a new music site. Engineer Glenn McDonald, in an attempt to record different types of music, created a website in 2013 that brought together more than 500 genres and tried to find the artists that best fit inside. Dubbed a "musical intelligence platform", McDonald's creation, Every Noise at Once (all the sounds at once) is a map of music genres to explore and discover new music.
More than 1,500 genres with audio samples
Currently Every Noise at Once has more than 1,500 genres, and some are quite striking. That is, have you ever heard genres like 'deep happy hardcore', 'bubblegum dance' or 'nu gaze'? McDonald's algorithm has them. And it not only classifies genres by the musical styles that are closely aligned, but it provides an audio sample of each with just a click. Or, you can click on the arrow next to each genre to see the artists that best suit your taste based on data provided by Spotify.
It's not perfect, but it does its job by presenting the majority of artists from each genre. And just like on the main genres page, you can click on each artist to get a sample of their sound. Or, you can click on the double arrow to open a Spotify playlist of the selected artist. And if you're feeling really adventurous, go to the main page and click the Scan button to listen to five-second samples of each genre. There's no doubt that Every Noise at Once is the ideal site to explore the different genres and discover new music.
