If you didn't have the chance to play it, now is the ideal time. With a series of changes that promise to improve the experience and bring in more players, Evolve, the game by the creators of Left 4 Dead, is now free.
Released in 2015 for consoles and PC, Evolve introduced us to Shear, an alien planet where five players, four playing as hunters and one as a monster, face each other. The game uses an asymmetric structure, as the hunter team is controlled via a first-person view, while monsters are controlled from a third-person perspective. The hunters' objective is to eliminate the monster, while the monster's objective is to consume the planet's wildlife and evolve to become stronger. The game promised to evolve multiplayer mode, but many things fell by the wayside.
Unfortunately, the gameplay fell short, without delving too deeply into its mechanics, leading to mixed reviews from the community and few sales. Titles like Left 4 Dead (from the same developer studio) that to this day enjoy great popularity, in Evolve the magic was lost shortly after, causing low player reception. To prevent this, Turtle Rock Studios, the game's creators, made a series of changes, the most important being that Evolve is now free on Windows. This change, called Phase 2, also offers a new game design, mechanics, and better balance and system performance.
If you previously paid for Evolve, don't worry because you will get additional bonuses, such as rewards and special access, which will be delivered in the coming months. Downloadable content (DLC) will also be available for free. It's worth clarifying that the changes are implemented in the Windows version.
