Because today I have something much worse: it's called ExponenTile and its mechanics combine 2048 with the classic tic-tac-toe, exponentially adding the values of identical pieces both vertically and horizontally...
Bored with Wordle? I can't blame you. Weird words, the New York Times suing its clones... let's say it has lost some of its spark. However, there is always something new to try simply because many developers see game creation as a way to polish their skills. That brings us to Mike Bellika, who recently published a game called ExponenTile. Inspired by 2048 and tic-tac-toe, the game guarantees melted brains and an absolute loss of productivity Would you like to know more?
ExponenTile, Your New Addiction
The goal in ExponenTile is to score as many points as possible by swapping the positions of two pieces to form a row or column of three or more identical pieces. But that's not all: when you form a row or column, the pieces disappear and create a new piece with the original value multiplied by two. For example, "2-2-2" becomes 4, "4-4-4" becomes 8, and "8-8-8" becomes 16. However, with each additional piece we can add an extra multiplication step and get a larger number. "2-2-2-2" becomes 8, "4-4-4-4" is 16, "16-16-16-16-16" is 128, and so on.
The best part? This works vertically and horizontally, connecting multiple lines at once. Imagine you've formed a T shape with identical numbers, and only the connection point is missing. If you manage to place a number there, all the pieces around it extend the multiplier, resulting in an immense number. As if that weren't enough, when you free spaces, new pieces fall, which can trigger a fabulous chain reaction.
To finish, ExponenTile is open source, and anyone who wishes can study the code or run it offline. Personally, I'm lost. I've been playing for three hours, my high score is 33,000 points, and I can no longer tell an 8 from a 32. Fantastic.
