The FCC Space Bureau approved Amazon Leo’s application to acquire Globalstar on October 27, 2026, in Order DA-26-1160, docket 26-134. The FCC’s order page lists the order as adopted, issued and released that day.
Amazon Leo’s use of the C-3 authorization depends on closing
Reporting says Amazon Leo may use Globalstar’s C-3 System authorization to build and launch the system after the acquisition closes. The FCC’s approval is for the acquisition application; the reported authorization use comes after closing.
What the reported competition findings say
DigWatch and Via Satellite reported that the FCC found Amazon and Globalstar did not compete for each other’s customers and that the transaction would not eliminate existing or potential competitors. Direct-to-device (D2D) connectivity refers to links between satellites and mobile devices. The reported findings address the applicants’ competitive relationship, not which D2D provider will prevail.
Fierce Network reported that Globalstar’s private 5G business, XCOM RAN, is included in the acquisition. The outlet also reported that XCOM RAN general manager Tamer Kadous said integration discussions with Amazon were ongoing and no final decision had been made about the unit’s post-close direction.
