On October 27, 2026, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approved the transfer of control of licenses and authorizations held by Globalstar and its subsidiaries to Amazon. The decision was a regulatory step in Amazon’s planned acquisition of the satellite operator.
What the FCC approved
Reports on the decision described about 25 MHz of Globalstar mobile-satellite spectrum and access to its C-3 system as part of the transaction. Convergência Digital reported that C-3 is planned as a 48-satellite constellation. DiarioBitcoin reported that building and launching the system depended on the acquisition closing.
Convergência Digital also reported that Amazon would have to continue Globalstar’s existing agreements with U.S. defense and public-safety agencies.
The acquisition still had to close
FCC approval did not complete the commercial acquisition. Convergência Digital reported that the deal was expected to close in 2027.
