Feet that won't stop moving. The pen mechanism that clicks again and again. Playing with keys. Stress balls. Bubble wrap. These are just a few of the ways we channel that extra “energy”. Now imagine a product that has a little bit of all of those things. Buttons, switches, beads, wheels, levers. Well, stop imagining: that product is called Fidget Cube, and it blew Kickstarter out of the water.
In grade school, every pencil that passed through my hands ended up chewed. As an adult, I admit I still bite my nails. Some call them tics, others disorders. These are the little things we do daily, often without being fully conscious of them, but they're there anyway, and they never go away. There are certain examples that give special pleasure, like popping bubble wrap, though not all of them feel good, and they indicate that people suffer from concentration problems when studying or working, falling into prolonged procrastination. Honestly, I don't know if the Fidget Cube can help, but one thing is certain: it looks very tempting, and everyone seems to want one.

It's a simple cube. On its sides we find five buttons (three click, two are silent), a lever in gamepad style, a switch, a groove to run your thumb over, a metal bead accompanied by three wheels, and a small circle you can spin. The Fidget Cube is available in several colors, is very easy to carry, and can be used anywhere, even in places that require silence (except for those three clicking buttons, of course). Its creators have published several studies related to these special behaviors, but the underlying idea is to present the Fidget Cube as a toy.
A Kickstarter Success Story
That said, Kickstarter gave this project 4.3 million dollars, when it initially sought 15,000. I'll repeat that: 4.3 million dollars for a small cube with buttons, switches, wheels, and beads. The most affordable options are completely sold out, and anyone wanting a cube now must pay 19 dollars, cover the shipping cost (which ships worldwide), and wait until March of next year. Yes, I think I want one too.
