With three games in less than a year, Five Nights at Freddy's made a huge impact on the gaming community. But the most striking thing is the announcement of a movie by Warner Bros., and here we tell you all the details.
Last year, developer Scott Cawthon surprised PC and mobile users with an interesting survival horror called Five Nights at Freddy's. The game takes place at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a pizzeria with a band of animatronic animals that sing cheerful songs during the day but at night become serial killers. The player takes on the role of a security guard whose goal is to survive a night locked inside, knowing that a killer, fuzzy machine could jump out of the darkness at any moment. The game had a huge impact on the community, and soon the second part of this title was available.
But the striking thing is that yesterday it was learned that Warner Bros. acquired the rights to adapt the Five Nights at Freddy's game series into a movie. Producers Roy Lee (The Ring, The Grudge) from Vertigo Entertainment, along with David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) from KatzSmith Productions, will produce the movie. For now there is no script, so we don't know exactly what is planned. But the concept is easy to understand, and Scott Cawthon says: “The story really lends itself to being a movie and feeds on an unexplored niche of horror that a lot of people will be able to relate to.”
If we consider that the protagonist is a security guard on the night shift in a closed place where robotic animals come to life, we could easily relate it to Ben Stiller's Night at the Museum movies but with a terrifying vibe. Currently there are three games in the series Five Nights at Freddy's (the third came out in March of this year), where a quite unsettling feeling stands out in terms of art design (just take a look at the little animals). There is still no confirmed cast, no director, and much less a release date, but as soon as there is news, rest assured we will keep you updated.
