Floating YouTube is a free extension that lets you open a floating window with a YouTube video while you browse other sites or work in, say, an Excel. It works simply and can be set to “Always on top” so it never falls into the background when you click elsewhere.
If you’re like many of us who work online, you probably have several tabs open in your browser. And one of them is almost always YouTube, the world’s largest video site. Whether you’re hooked on a movie trailer, a music video, or you follow a bunch of YouTubers, leaving the tab in the background is annoying. You miss everything that’s happening!

So what to do? The solution is Floating YouTube, a free extension that opens a floating window with the video and pins it “always on top” while you browse other tabs.
Using Floating YouTube is easy. When you open it, a window appears where you manually type the video URL. That’s it. Now you can visit other tabs or work in any program without missing the video details. The floating window has three options: adjust the video size (you’ll have to set the resolution manually), keep the video in the foreground (or let it stay in the background), and an icon to move and position the window wherever you like.
Does it have any flaws? Yes, though minor ones. It works with playlists, which is very convenient, but to switch videos (or playlists) you have to close the program and reopen it. Also, you can’t click on suggested videos once the current one ends, so you’ll have to start a new instance to keep using it. That’s it. Floating YouTube is only available for Google Chrome.
